Pros & Cons Globalization (PCG)

PCG:   SOLD

The thing that most Indonesian people are very worried about has now happened, this is not only experienced by our own nation but also every nation and country on this earth, but in reality Indonesia is the most strategic country, so that since the past (before independence) until now Indonesia has become the most favorite target market for developed countries, because they know the weaknesses of our country, where most of the population is a consumer population, to the point that even very simple kindergarten toys are imported from abroad. In this global competition, our country can be said to be still in the degradation zone, not only that, this has an impact on the friction of interests between nations that is so fast and covers increasingly complex problems. and the following are the effects of globalization on several aspects of life:

The Impact of Globalization on Indonesian Society, Nation and State

Territorial Boundaries

The territorial boundaries of a country are no longer a barrier to the interests of each nation and country, now everything can be achieved by any means and any media such as air, land, sea, even down to the network level.

Economy

In the economic field, there is increasingly tight competition, making it increasingly difficult for poor countries, the rate of technological development can no longer be stopped, there are always new things every year, semester, even every 3 months, this makes our country increasingly far behind to follow it, this is from a technological perspective, now from a needs and food perspective, try to come to the supermarket, even at the fruit seller on the side of the road. You will find various kinds of fruits from abroad. For example, there are red apples from Washington, red grapes, longans, Chinese pears, Cavendish bananas. If you pay attention, most of them are imported from other countries. Not to mention if you pay attention to various types of food, you will find California Fried Chicken, Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald's, and Pizza Hut. Those are just a few examples that can be revealed.

Education

Globalization also has an influence on education in our country, such as:

Pancasila Education: the current generation has experienced a decline in ethics and morals that used to be the hallmark of the Indonesian nation, and were the basis for assessing a person's personality.

Regional Languages: Indonesia, which is rich in regional languages, will now slowly be abandoned by the new generation, so that Indonesia's richness in the scope of languages will increasingly fade, because only a few of the current generation can fully master their regional languages.

Indonesian: The current generation seems to have made the position of Indonesian language no. 2 after the international language, namely English, so our reflection as a nation itself seems to be no longer complete, because the current generation's mastery of their own language can be said to be increasingly fading, because they think that foreign languages are cooler and so on, even though it is not entirely true. This is very different from developed countries like Japan which upholds its National Language.

Politics, Defense and Security

Globalization in the political field is apparent, that democracy and human rights have been used by the international world to determine whether a country is considered a civilized country or not?

Understanding Globalization

Sartono Kartodirjo argues that the process of globalization is actually a historical phenomenon that has existed since prehistoric times. Some examples include nations from Asia to Europe, to America, from Asia to the Archipelago, and others. Based on historical review, Indonesia has actually experienced a long process of globalization.

Globalization is a social change, in the form of increasing interconnectedness between and among its elements that occurs as a result of technological developments in the fields of transportation and communication that facilitate international cultural and economic exchange.

Globalization is a process in which events, decisions and activities in one part of the world can have important consequences for individuals and societies in other parts of the world.

Globalization is the process of increasing the flow of goods, services, money and ideas across national boundaries.

Globalization is the process by which trade, information and culture increasingly move across national borders.

Globalization is the increasing interconnectedness of different parts of the world through the creation of economic, environmental, political, and cultural exchange processes.

Globalization is a movement towards the creation of markets or policies that cross national boundaries.

So it can be concluded that globalization is "the dominance of influence between countries that has become a trend on the face of the earth".

World historical events that increased the process of globalization are as follows:

  • European expansion through navigation and trade.
  • The industrial revolution encouraged the search for markets for industrial products.
  • The growth of colonialism and imperialism.
  • The growth of capitalism.
  • In the post-World War II era, telecommunications and jet-powered transportation improved.
  • Whether we realize it or not, what is clear is that globalization is currently developing on a large scale, and is accelerated by the free flow of information.

The Importance of Globalization for Indonesia

What should the Indonesian people do in facing this globalization? Of course, Indonesia must be able and strive to be independent in meeting the basic needs of its people, so that it no longer needs to depend on other countries. And if it is necessary to take something or goods from abroad, then we must use the noble values of Pancasila to filter it, so that the identity of the Indonesian nation remains strong. Something modern is indeed needed but it must not eliminate the values that are already rooted in the Indonesian nation.

The Importance of Globalization for National Politics

Foreign policy

Do you know what a country wants to fight for or defend in an international forum? The answer is none other than national interests. For example, sending Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) and Female Migrant Workers (TKW) abroad. Their sending is in order to reduce unemployment and generate foreign exchange for Indonesia. Therefore, in order to realize national interests, there must be cooperation with neighboring countries or countries where TKI and TKW are sent. Therefore, it can be said that national interests are the key to foreign policy. What is foreign policy? In simple terms, foreign policy is defined as a scheme or pattern or way a certain country deals with other countries or a group of other countries, either openly or secretly, for national purposes or interests with power and capability.

Foreign Policy of the Republic of Indonesia

The legal basis for the implementation of the Republic of Indonesia's foreign policy is clearly described in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution, paragraphs I and IV. Paragraph I states that "freedom is the right of all nations and therefore colonialism in the world must be abolished because it is not in accordance with humanity and justice."

Furthermore, in paragraph IV it is stated that "...and participate in implementing world order based on freedom, eternal peace and social justice..."

From the two quotes above, it is clear that the Republic of Indonesia's foreign policy has a very strong legal basis, because it is regulated in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution.

Characteristics of the Free and Active Politics of the Republic of Indonesia

Free and Active is referred to as the nature of the Republic of Indonesia's foreign policy. Even behind the words free and active are still added with other characteristics, for example anti-colonialism, anti-imperialist.

In the document of the Strategic Plan for the Implementation of the Republic of Indonesia's Foreign Policy (1984-1989) which was stipulated by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs on May 19, 1983, it is explained that the nature of Foreign Policy is: (1) Free and Active... (2) Anti-colonialism... (3) Serving National Interests and... (4) Democratic. According to M Sabir, characteristics are usually referred to as more permanent characteristics, while adjectives give the meaning of something that can change. Thus, because free and active are characteristics that are permanently attached to the body of free and active politics.

Definition of Free and Active Politics of the Republic of Indonesia

Free, meaning not bound by an ideology or by the politics of a foreign country or by a particular bloc of countries, or superpower countries.

Active means with realistic contributions actively developing freedom, friendship and international cooperation while respecting the sovereignty of other countries.

The Objectives of the Republic of Indonesia's Foreign Policy

In the document successfully compiled by the government which was outlined in the Republic of Indonesia's Foreign Policy Strategy Plan (1984-1989), it was stated, among other things, that a country's foreign policy is essentially a means to achieve national interests.

Meanwhile in Indonesia, if we look closely, the basic formulation of national interests can be found in paragraph IV of the Opening of the 1945 Constitution, namely that the Indonesian nation is mandated to form an Indonesian State Government which carries out the following four functions:

  1. The function of Hankam, in this case, is to protect the entire nation and all of Indonesia's territory.
  2. Economic function, namely advancing general welfare.
  3. Social and Cultural Function, namely to make the nation's life more intelligent.
  4. Political function, namely in the formulation of the sentence ... to participate in implementing world order based on freedom, eternal peace and social justice.

So, these four main functions are actually also the national goals of the Indonesian nation.
